I was a kid that grew up in the South and was always outdoors fishing and hunting and, you know, swimming in the pool during the summer.

Fishing is a hard job. Fishing at night. Rain. Day, night. You have to be wise and smart. And quick.

When I was very young - around the age of nine - my family used to go to a house in Somerset that my stepfather rented every summer. There was fishing, lakes and riding.

When I am fishing, I think quite a lot about the fish, but I also think about the book I'm writing.

I do fish. I think there is a connection between thinking and fishing mostly because you spend a lot of time up to your waist in water without a whole lot to keep your mind busy.

Fishing, with me, has always been an excuse to drink in the daytime.

But very unfortunately the merchant marine died away till even the majority of fishing done about the Cape is in the hands of the Portuguese who emigrated to the Cape some fifty years ago.
